Star Bench

Star Bench is an interactive public sculpture which blurs the line between functional and formal. The project dissects the classical five-pointed star and reassembled it in order to tell stories about the past of the star and speculates future formations for the common symbol. The robust timber and steel construction is accented with fine meandering texts which inscribe written histories into the seating structure. The sculpture gives the impression of movement yet remains stable and safe for any age. It was donated to the 3rd Ward Chess Park in Houston, TX and will serve the community in a multiplicity of ways for years to come.
